The purpose of the study Timbre discrimination in musical context is to understand how interpersonal differences in musical background and musical education influence the perception of different musical timbres. A timbre is the perceived tone color of a musical sound, which makes a tone sound different on a violin compared to a piano, even if it is the same tone (in terms of pitch height).
